United by historical reasons, it is undeniable that by having been a Portuguese colony, Brazil inherited values and characteristics of the Portuguese parliament. For that reason, this documentary and bibliographical research aims to point out some aspects relevant to understanding the identity of the Brazilian politics as well as the features currently observed in our parliament. By comparing the historical trajectory of these countries Parliaments, the current institutional particularities and their legal systems, became possible to identify certain elements of the Brazilian political culture. That means the everyday behaviors and actions of social actors, rituals and parliamentary traditions. It is noticeable, moreover, that some Brazilian political and parliamentary practices are strongly influenced by the Portuguese inheritance such as the tradition of sending a Presidential message at the beginning of each Legislative session of the National Congress of Brazil, as well as the opening legislative sessions of the two houses (House of representative and Senate) with mention of God. This demonstrates the persistence of religious values that are the result of colonization by a fervently Catholic country such as Portugal....
